Music

Music at Como Primary provides all students with the opportunity to learn about the place music plays in everyday life.

It gives them the opportunity to experience creating, sharing and performing their music.

In the junior years, our specialist teachers use movement and percussion instruments when teaching students about rhythm and beat to encourage note reading and performance. From Year 4 all students learn the recorder which is wonderful preparation for entering the School of Instrumental Music Service (SIMS) program in Year 5-6. Selected SIMS students in Year 5-6 have access to learning a brass instrument: the trumpet or trombone, or the clarinet.

Como has two fabulous choirs that perform regularly at special musical assemblies, at choral festivals and when invited and in the wider community.

Students are exposed to a wide repertoire of music from different genres and develop skills in the area of both choral and solo performance. We have a junior choir for students in Year 2-3 and a senior choir for students in Year 4-6.

At Como we see music as a tool of communication and as method of expression that students can continue all their lives.
